Mobile-review has reviewed the Samsung i780 very thoroughly. There’s a wide variety of control options; touchscreen with stylus, touckscreen with finger, and a touchpad that can control a mouse pointer or work as a conventional navigation pad. It is an interesting idea, but the touchpad might take a while to get used.
The display is a good-looking 2.55″ 320×320. The unusual display dimensions cause some problems with application compatibility though. 128 Mb RAM, which should become a standard for WM devices. GPS is included but it only works with the Navigon application. The battery is ok but on the weak side, lasting 1,5-2 days in real life. I like the customization of the sofware interface and the Windows Media home screen mini player.
Things I don’t like are the proprietary headphone connector and the mediocre camera type (fixed-focus 2Mp, without flash). I’m hoping we’ll se more WM mobiles with useful cameras, auto-focus being the most important improvement. I’m often taking snaps of texts, using the phone as a mobile scanner, and that’s impossible without AF.
